Having a heart for working with children Anna Baumann excitedly planned while Catherine Baumann coordinated the December 20th Christmas Party event. Taking place at United Ambassadors in Christ church , this event was a huge success for the refugee children, parents, and the volunteers. Volunteers worked tirelessly wrapping presents, planning creative events, and booking Joe Merkley as Santa. Over 35 children were allowed to play, socialize, work on crafts, and of course tell Santa what they wanted for Christmas. Catherine explained that it was nice to see the children receive their presents and then pick out presents to hand to their parents. It was a very successful and heartwarming event enjoyed by all!

Monthly Updates for 2010

We had a great start to the New Year!

*Two monthly women’s meetings accommodated working and non-working moms at the Center for Language and Culture. These are used for various topics including life skills training, medical information, and safety training. An event is scheduled around Mother’s Day!

*A group of the Sudanese women participated in the Sister to Sister conference at Christ’s Church.  It was a great way for them to learn about American Christian conferences while interacting with many of the women from Christ’s Church
. .The United Ambassadors in Christ Ministry are going to have their own conference in August

Volunteer Cortnie Yeoman works to implement
monthly children’s programs

With a background in recreation therapy, Cortnie has witnessed firsthand the significance of enjoyable programs in educational enrichment. The goal of this program is to educate refugee children in a fun and relevant way by
exposing them to typical U.S. outings. These outings will give the children an

opportunity to assimilate themselves in a safe cultural environment. Each outing will be specially designed to incorporate learning with fun!
