Volunteer of The Month Nhial Kou
Congratulations to Nhial Kou!

Nhial Kou has been a major impact on the Sudanese Community and with BTS. Nhial works with the World Relief Organization, Swisher Int'l, and is a Board Member of BTS.

6/19/2010 was the date for this year's World Refugee Day event, held at the Jax Main Library. A group of people from many different parts of the world were sworn in as Citizens and we were able to join in this wonderful day of reminder about the refugees and the things they do to become very important to our city and our people.

During this celebration the Jax Library awarded a few awards to refugees who have been integral in the resettlement of their people and others  here in the community. Nhial was the recipient of the "Community Treasure Award".

Nhial continues to raise support for BTS and helping people in his village back in Sudan. Nhial lives in Jacksonville with his wife and children.

UNF Nursing Class Event
 Nursing Class Event
6/29/10 and 7/02/10 were memorable days for the 100+ nursing students. Thanks to Professor Connie Roush for holding these classes where Cornelius Duot  & John Yok shared information about their experiences in Sudan regarding medical help, medical needs, and the journey they took as they fled Sudan years ago. We have held these classes for the past 3 years and have received a lot of response of caring words and how helpful it has been to all the students.
A Memorable Night A Memorable Night
at Christ's Church Mandarin

7/02/2010 was a memorable night for 47 of the Sudanese children and some of their moms. Thanks to Anna Baumann and mom Catherine Baumann, the planning was complete and their group and others helped host the children at Christ's Church Mandarin's event.  This field trip was educational, recreational, and had the final topping on a warm, summer night:  a beautiful display of fireworks!  There were fun rides, good food and great fellowship for all. And the moms got to enjoy time to visit, eat special treats and enjoy the night as much as the children. It was a terrific time had by all!
Florida Coastal School of Law

On 7/23/10 BTS was asked to give a Presentation to the students of FCSL. A special film was shown followed by a Panel from BTS & Legal Professionals. This was held to provide the students a first-hand knowledge of the importance of the need for legal representation for immigrant rights. Also, we were able to promote the need of Pro Bono work. We would like to thank Professor Ericka Curran, Adam Habibi, and Dean Donald Jones who provided this venue for us to share our work and time with the students.
